Trineo Spotlight: Hannah, Becca, René

Cynthia Cage June 12, 2021

Trineo team members live in cities ranging from Seattle, Washington, to Christchurch, New Zealand, with interests that include yoga, music, gaming, and cycling. Over the last few months, Trineo has welcomed several new faces in each of our offices. In this series, we’ll learn more about a few of our newest Trineos we are proud to call friends and colleagues.

Hannah Oldroyd

Software Engineer

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand

Three words that describe you: Energetic, adventurous, determined

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Anything outdoors! I’m not really a fan of being cooped up indoors, so to counter the office environment I run, ride horses, bike, and hike. I love to travel, so running is a great excuse to visit new places for races.

What were some of the reasons you joined Trineo? The opportunity. Most entry-level roles (software and otherwise), insist on graduates straight out of university, so to find a company that embraced the fact I have life experiences in other roles and have worked out which elements I really enjoy, was a one in a million.

What are you most excited about with your new role at Trineo? Learning from so many awesome Trineos, I’m right at the start of my software engineering journey and impatient to know everything I can!

In your first month or so at Trineo, how would you describe our culture to candidates or other people who inquire? Encouraging, welcoming, collaborative.

Tell us about some of your favorites:

Food: Yorkshire puddings

Favorite band/singer or music genre: Volbeat

Favorite holiday: Christchurch Anniversary Day, as it usually coincides with Queenstown Marathon weekend.

Becca Viner

What three words would describe you best? Thoughtful, passionate, persistent

Favorite holiday? The 4th of July- it's all about spending time with friends and family and hanging outside all day..and fireworks!!!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I like to read, podcast, listen to music/dance, build things out of knex/nanoblocks, cook, go for walks and sit on rocks, tune bikes and snowboards, ride bikes and snowboards, and sometimes break bikes and snowboards!

Can you share with us a little about your professional background prior to Trineo? I started out on the data side of things as a data analyst and then product data specialist for an e-commerce bike shop and local grocery store chain. From there I got into frontend/design and open source projects.  Just before Trineo, I was working as a software engineer/mentor at a code school focused on full-stack javascript.

What were some of the reasons you joined Trineo? The culture of sharing, collaboration, and empathy, the focus on work-life balance, and the diversity of projects.

What are you most excited about with your new role at Trineo? Working with adventurous and thoughtful folks, having great discussions, and building useful things.

You’ve been here just over a month, what have you enjoyed most about working here? All the things I was most excited about - great discussions, nerding out about all sorts of things, and having time to focus on quality work and not just ticking off a list of tasks.

And finally, if you won the lottery what would you do with the money? Travel! I would donate time/money to communities and meet local folks in combination with eating really good food from all different cuisines and going on local lesser-known outdoor adventures.

Prior to Trineo, tell us a bit about your professional background. I have a background in design thinking, product ownership, and project management. I have been working in digital transformation and innovation for the last fourteen years - across New Zealand, Australia, and Europe. I love combining methodological rigour with creativity and empathy, and I'm passionate about human-centered & iterative approaches to innovation and transformation.

What were some of the reasons you joined Trineo and what are you most excited about with your new role?  The main 3 reasons were Trineo’s culture and values; the B-Corp Certification; and the opportunity to make a difference with design thinking. I'm most excited about helping weave design thinking meaningfully into the fabric of Trineo.

When you are not working, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?  I’m super introverted in my spare time. I like to have in-depth conversations with friends, go for wanders, and I also like to be alone and read and reflect.

Tell us about some of your favorites:

Holiday: Christmas is my favorite but it must be cold and there must be mulled wine!

Food: Japanese. I particularly like Okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes) and watching the bonito flakes gently wave on top of the hot pancake.

Last book you read? “Hunter, Gather, Parent” by Michaeleen Doucleff. I am in need of some good parenting advice :)

How would you describe our culture to people who inquire?  A self-reflective place where people love their craft, love a good laugh, and humbly direct their talents towards something meaningful, robust, and ethically sound.

And finally, in your first month or so at Trineo what have you enjoyed most about working here?  I’ve most enjoyed the warm welcome, and the freedom to structure my approach to tackling the tasks of my role.
